VINEYARD: Russiz Superiore, located in the Capriva del Friuli municipality in the Collio DOC. Vineyard sits at 80 meters (263 feet) above sea level. Located in close proximity to the sea (about 12 miles distance) and the Alps, the vineyard has afternoon winds that cool grapes after long days of sun. Fruit is all hand harvested.
SOIL: Layers of sandstone and rocky loam (limestone and clay) that were once the ocean floor. Soil is fairly impermeable, causing low amounts of erosion and standing water.
VINIFICATION AND AGING: Grapes 100% de-stemmed followed by a cold soak maceration. Grapes are then gently pressed and fermented in 15% oak and 85% stainless steel. Aged on the lees for eight months followed by a minimum of one month in the bottle.
