It’s time to salute our country and also time to salute the wine varietal that makes our country great: California Cabernet Sauvignon. Cabernet put Napa Valley on the international winemaking map back in 1976 at the historic Paris blind tasting, and it has never looked back.

From the fabled To Kalon vineyard on the Napa Valley floor to the mountainside plantings of Mount Veeder, Diamond Mountain, Spring Mountain, Howell Mountain and Pritchard Hill, cabernet lovers are having a field day with all of the wonderful vintages of the past few years. Sonoma County has also gotten into the act with outstanding examples from the Sonoma Mountain and Alexander Valley sub appellations.

So get that grill out and start the steaks, chops and ribs smoking to enjoy those full-bodied tannins of Cabernet.
