Notes: Paul Hobbs' Pinot Noir from Hyde Vineyard in Carneros, Napa Valley, is crafted from 100% Pinot Noir grapes, specifically the Calera clone on 101-14 rootstock, planted in 2008. The vineyard, situated on haire loam and bressa-dibble soils with weathered sandstone, features a 2-30% slope with northeast and southeast exposure, and uses bilateral cane and vertical shoot positioning (VSP) for trellis and pruning. The growing season is often marked by varying weather conditions, which can influence bud break, bloom, fruit set, and berry size. Harvested by hand at night, the grapes undergo a cold soak and maceration with indigenous yeast fermentation and gentle punchdowns. The wine is aged in French oak barrels (50% new) and bottled unfined and unfiltered. This Pinot Noir presents a luminous cerise hue, with savory aromas of grilled meats and black pepper, followed by notes of ripe strawberry, raspberry, dried herbs, spiced licorice, dark cherry, and a touch of vanilla. Silky, ultra-fine tannins and balanced acidity create a long, supple, and elegant finish.
